Last week, I was talking to a woman after one of my speaking engagements and we got into a lengthy discussion about life. What truly caught my attention was when she told me that she understood that there were possibilities available for people, but she couldn’t see that there were possibilities for her. She was, in fact, “the” exception.

Except for Me
I hear this type of thinking quite often and it’s on my list of “Junkie Justifications” or thinking excuses…I call this one: Except for Me. It goes something like this, “Yes, I hear you and I see it happen for people and I understand how it can happen…EXCEPT for me.” This thinking occurs when your perception of what is possible in your life is based on your current understanding or knowledge. And, in your current understanding or knowledge, what you would would like to happen may not be possible…YET.

The word “yet” is important here. Just because something isn’t possible now, doesn’t mean it isn’t possible in the future. Unfortunately, as long as you believe that things are not possible for you, they won’t be. One of reasons that this is true is that while you don’t believe it’s possible, your brain will do everything within its power to keep you from the path that takes you towards that possibility. Why? Because your brain is trying to protect you from perceived failure.

Beyond Your Belief
So, how do you combat this thinking? In order to reset your life, you will have to put some effort into resetting your mind. Fortunately, it isn’t a difficult process, you will simply need to put some new ideas into place in your life. Also, keep in mind that our brains are like sponges and whatever is soaked up by our brains is what we will squeeze back out!

3 Simple Ideas to Reset Your Mind

  1. Control the daily news – it’s been proven that bad news sells! As a result, the news is full of negativity, dreams that have been squashed and warnings about scary elements of life. I’m not talking about keeping your head in sand, but be more discerning about the type of news you allow into your head. Instead of the news on TV, read your news in a newspaper or online and be discriminating!
  2. Read books with positive messages – there are wonderful books available! Stay away from books about murder, tragedy and the frailty of the human condition. Instead read books that are meant to help you grow and challenge yourself or books about people who overcame adversity!
  3. Get a good night’s sleep – let’s be honest, it’s tough to be positive about the future when you’re exhausted. The best solution is to get a good night of sleep, night after night!

A Future of Possibilities
With just these 3 simple ideas: controlling the news you let into your mind, reading positive books and getting a good night’s sleep, you will be well on your way to opening yourself up to possibilities in your own life. By changing the types of thoughts and ideas that go into your mind, you will have different thoughts coming out of your mind. In less than 30 days, you will not only feel your mind reset, but you will begin to Reset Your Life as well!

Have you tried any of the above ideas in your own life or have other ideas? If so, how did they help? Let me know in the comments below, I would love to hear from you!
