July 21, 2019

I remember the very first time I turned the camera on myself. It was 2008. I had purchased a “Flip” camcorder (anyone remember those?). The moment I pressed record and that little light turned red, I froze.

What the hell was I supposed to say?

I felt so self-conscious.Judgment crept into every single thought I had and the voice was RELENTLESS:

Who the hell do you think you are?

– You think people want to hear what you have to say?

– You sound nervous.

– You really should have lost 10 more pounds before doing this.

– Do you even know how long to talk?

– You know this is going to look unprofessional.

– Again, who in the world do you think you are?

At this point, sweat was popping out on my forehead and my face was beet red. I watched the recording in horror…

– Do I really sound like that?

– Damn, I really need to lose like 25 pounds before ever attempting this again!

– OMG, my face is so red and sweaty, I look like I’m having a panic attack!

Yeah, I was having a panic attack. And most of it caused by the horrible things I was telling myself.

You are your own worst critic. Especially as a woman, you are bombarded daily by messages in magazines, the radio, television…everywhere you go, you are told that your most valuable asset is beauty. This message is embedded deep into your subconscious.

How you look is NOT your greatest asset! Your greatest asset is your mind. Your greatest asset is your will. Your greatest asset is your compassion, your tenacity & uniqueness.

And somewhere deep inside you, you know this. You’ve felt glimmers of it. And the older you get, the more it pushes and tells you that you want more. You have something to say to the world and the bad@ss inside of you knows that you deserve more…more attention, more clients, more money. If people only knew what a powerhouse you are deep inside!

But, what if people don’t like the real you? What if you let the powerhouse out and you get rejected? What if…?

Listen, the list of “what if’s” can go on forever. So, let me set the record straight.

THE BAD NEWS:

There are people who aren’t going to like the real you. People are going to reject you. You’re going to be criticized. Whatever it is that you are scared of happening is most likely going to happen.

THE INCREDIBLE NEWS:

The more authentic and revealing of the real you that you are on camera, the more of YOUR people will hear you, adore you, want to know more about you, become raving fans and recruit more raving fans FOR YOU! In fact, social media and the ease with which we can all create videos makes this the BEST TIME IN HISTORY to be in business and GET KNOWN.

YOUR DECISION:

For the most part, the most successful people in the world are the most criticized, but they also have WAY more fans than critics. The trick is to be true to yourself, true to your dreams of standing out, getting your message out to the world and playing big. It’s time for you to let the real you out.
