Goals.

This simple, 5-letter word can instantly conjure up any number of thoughts and feelings.

Maybe you set a few goals for yourself at the beginning of the year and you’re on track to meet every single one of them. And, honestly, that’s AWESOME! But, more likely than not, that is just not the case for you, and instead, goals and goal-setting brings to mind a feeling of absolute dread. I think that this “dread” is why there are less and less people even making New Year’s Resolutions.

Problems With Goals

In fact, according to Statistic Brain, the percentage of people that usually make goals for the new year is only 45%. 45%!!! Now, that doesn’t mean that only 45% make goals, it just means that only 45% “usually” make goals.

So, what does that mean?

If you look at success rates, it starts to give a clue. You see, of the people that actually create a New Year’s Resolution, only 8% see it come to fruition. 8%!!! No wonder goals are so dreaded! I mean, why create something to do that you don’t complete? Who in the world likes that feeling? Not me and probably, not you either.

The One Thing You Must Include in Your Goal Setting

I think that the biggest reason that goals aren’t set and achieved with regularity is that you aren’t excited about your goal when you make it. That’s it. Problem solved.

“What? Deidre, it’s not that simple!”

Yep, I heard you. And, you’re right, it’s not that simple.

However, there is an overwhelming consistent factor among the 8% that accomplish their goals. And you guessed it…their goal excited them and challenged their belief in what was possible! When was the last time your goal excited and scared you at the same time? What would happen if your goal was something that truly meant something to you and the idea of accomplishing it excited you to your core?

In The BOLD Factor: Goal Setting to Ignite Your Life and Get What You Want!, I use multiple examples of people that have accomplished amazing feats that no one thought was possible. Sometimes, these people, these “goal achievers”, even doubted themselves that they would ever accomplish their goals. But, their goals ignited such a tremendous spark in their minds, the completion of the goal was so exciting, that they couldn’t see not accomplishing it.

What About You?

Take a look at you want to achieve in your life. What dream have you been putting off because you fear that it isn’t possible? What would happen if you focused on what it would be like to accomplish it instead of fail? What would be possible in your life…what would you be able to achieve?

Get excited and dream again…plain, ordinary, average people have accomplished greatness…you can too!
